How This CelebrityTrainer Makes Time For Movement, Everyday

by theSKIN

• By theSKIN

Watch just one video of a LEKFIT workout on Instagram, and you’ll know right away that founder + trainer Lauren Kleban’s approach to fitness is nothing less than fun. Beloved by celebs like Busy Phillips, Rooney Mara, and Emmy Rossum, Kleban’s high-energy but low-impact workouts are easy to get hooked on (who doesn’t want to bounce on a trampoline in the name of fitness?). Not to mention that the fact that classes are all available online makes them perfect for getting sweaty in quarantine. Read on for her thoughts on digital workouts, why she prioritizes movement, and her secret for taking care of her skin.

What inspired you to create LEKFIT?

LK

I was a professional dancer and had also been active in the fitness industry, so creating my own method was the organic next step!

TS

What sets it apart from other fitness methods?

LK

LEKFIT is a uniquely curated fitness method designed to work the full body using intervals of low-impact, high-intensity, fat-burning cardio along with muscle sculpting techniques created to strengthen and tone. Our workouts are musically driven, fun, challenging and effective, and produced in a safe, inclusive, body-positive space. We offer three signature class concepts: BOOST and HYPE provide both cardio and sculpt while DEFINE is strictly full-body sculpting.

You don’t have to spend copious amounts of time or money to make fitness part of your daily life.

How has the pandemic affected your business, and the fitness world as a whole?

LK

It has been quite a crazy time for our industry, to say the least. We went online in 2016 so when our pop-up studio closed its doors, it was really all about making sure our clients could continue getting the same LEKFIT experience fully on our digital platform. Each week, we provide four brand new workouts for our LEKFIT Digital subscribers, plus a growing library of additional workouts that can be done when you are short on time, light on equipment or want to add onto your daily routine. We’re hearing about how much people are loving working out at home, whether they are new to LEKFIT Digital or have been with us for awhile. I think our community has only grown stronger now that we need to be supporting each other online more than ever before!

What role does fitness play in your mental health and overall wellness?

LK

Physical fitness and being physically active is key to a healthy balanced lifestyle. Releasing those endorphins and getting sweaty leads to balance, and usually ends up being a way to work through things internally or externally.

TS

What is your position on diet culture?

LK

Since day one, LEKFIT has made a strong stance against the use of the word diet. We fully believe in giving your body what it needs, both with nutrition and physical fitness. We absolutely hope that the industry follows suit and if it doesn’t, LEKFIT will always be a safe space.

TS

How do you prioritize your own self-care?

LK

I put it on the calendar and truly commit to it. You can’t successfully care for others if you aren’t taking care of yourself. I also want to show my kids that prioritizing their health is a good thing, so I try to model that and make it a priority.

TS

What is the biggest fitness myth that you would dispel if you could?

LK

You don’t have to spend copious amounts of time or money to make fitness part of your daily life. You don’t have to break your body for it to be healthy or consider your workout successful. Fitness is something you should work into your schedule and make it doable so you don’t lead yourself to burnout. It absolutely can and should be something that is part of your daily life without taking over.

TS

Having such an active lifestyle can complicate skincare. What’s the single most helpful thing you’ve done to take care of your skin?

LK

Finding a provider that I really trust with all my skincare needs. I see Dr. Nancy Samolitis at FACILE dermatology + boutique, and she makes herself really accessible — I can reach out to her and she takes time during an appointment to go through everything with me. Finding someone like that is the key!
