What’s your ideal night in?

MD

My ideal night in would probably look something like making a big pasta dinner with a few of my dearest friends, some skin-contact wine, beautiful conversation, and I’m in bed by 10 pm.

TS

What’s your ideal night out?

MD

This also involves pasta, but probably a big beautiful dinner that ends up at a salsa club.

How do you Sunday?

MD

Sundays are such a sacred self-care day for me. I start with a cappuccino and head to the farmers market to pick up produce for the week. There’s nothing that makes me happier than slowly meandering the market, having oysters for breakfast and running into friends. This is also a great place to people watch — market day always has the best hats. Once I return home I always end up using half of my haul to make a huge meal and spending the rest of the evening getting ready for the week ahead.

TS

What’s your self-care power move?

MD

Journaling. While I believe in the power of a good serum, in my personal experience, journaling has been the most effective way to touch base with myself and find my balance. I do this daily, and always feel 100 lbs lighter after.

What’s a personal goal or project you are working towards?

MD

I’m currently working on a few written projects that are both a long time coming and labors of love. I’m turning 30 this year, and it feels like the perfect time to close those chapters and projects and welcome in a new decade.

TS

What’s currently on your want list?

MD

A trip to Greece, who’s coming with?

What’s the best thing social media has done for you? The worst?

MD

I’ve met some of my dearest friends through social media. It has also brought me some of my most memorable jobs and opportunities so I feel very blessed for that. But it has also made me face realities of how my actions and the actions of others can affect the younger generation of women. I’m careful not to over-glorify things, and I’m careful not to perpetuate a lifestyle fueled by consumerism and comparison. I try to create a space to transport people even for a moment. While I use social media and do enjoy it, I continue to remind myself to put down my phone and soak up experiences and people in real-time.

TS

What (or who) inspires you?

ES

I am constantly in awe of the women in my life who run their own businesses, lives, and hearts.

TS

Best beauty buy of the past 3 months?

MD

The Retinoid and Vitamin C Serum by Protocol. I saw a big difference in the texture of my skin almost immediately.

TS

Describe beauty as you see it in a few words?

MD

For me, beauty happens in moments that are unhindered and uninhibited. I think the most beautiful women are those who wear their contradictions proudly. I see beauty in people who embrace themselves for who they are, but I also see beauty in the most nitty-gritty human moments some that are marked by pain and adversity.

Let’s play F*ck, Marry, Kill skincare edition: cleanser, moisturizer, serum.

MD

Ugh, I hate most cleansers and I live for a heavy moisturizer. Fuck serum, marry moisturizer, and kill cleanser.

TS

And now makeup edition: mascara, blush, lipstick?

MD

Marry blush, f*ck lipstick, kill mascara!
