Of all the skin products out there, serums have always been the most mystifying to me. Which ones am I supposed to be using? When am I supposed to be using them? Is it necessary to splurge on a serum with a triple digit price tag to get results? My skincare collection has been a veritable whirlwind of products over the years, as I’ve cycled through many, many options. So imagine my excitement when I got my hands on Facile’s Super Skin Serums — a set of four dermatologist-formulated targeted serums that treat everything from acne to fine lines to dullness to irritation. They promised to help me “level up my skincare,” which I really did need. But more so than a leveling up, I needed a decluttering. And that’s exactly what I got: a complete serum routine that’s super simple to use and gives great results. Bonus points for looking adorable on a bathroom shelf. Oh, and in case you were still wondering: no, you don’t need to break the bank for an effective serum. Read on for the complete rundown on each Super Skin Serum!
Dullness and discoloration? Try Brighten Targeted Pigment Serum
Brighten is exactly what you need to kick sun spots and discoloration to the curb. With Tranexamic Acid to lift away stubborn melasma, post-acne marks, and dark spots, Azelaic Acid to smooth texture and reduce blemishes, and Niacinamide to strengthen skin and boost collagen, you’ll soon be sporting a more youthful glow.
If you’re not on the tranexamic acid wagon yet, this is your chance to hop on. It’s the best ingredient I’ve ever tried to fade dark spots, and the fact that Brighten features is makes me love this serum even more. Notably absent from the formula is Vitamin C — which is a big selling point for me. No more shelf-unstable brightening products that you have to throw away after 6 short months, please. My favorite part? Brighten has a sheer pearlescent sheen, so your skin starts glowing immediately while the actives work to make your skin glow over time. I love how it looks under makeup!
Prone to pimples? Try Clear Targeted Acne Serum
Clear’s killer combo of skin-smoothing Lactic and Glycolic Acids quickly exfoliates and lifts away stubborn discoloration, once and for all. Salicylic Acid unclogs pores while Niacinamide blasts away post-breakout pigmentation. It’s your breakout’s worst enemy.
True story: I used this on a maskne breakout and it cleared it up overnight. Seriously! I woke up to a clear chin, with no redness or irritation. That was enough to make me immediately fall in love. I’ve been a longtime fan of another lactic acid serum, but this combo of acids worked so well that it may bump my previous favorite to the back of my shelf. The smell is chemical-y, but it dissipates quickly. Not a bad trade-off for clear skin!
Stressed out skin? Try Destress Targeted Calming Serum
Destress is like a chill pill for skin. It features a serious roster of skin-soothing ingredients, most notably a concentrated blend of lipids including phytosphingosine, which kills off bad-for-you bacteria, reduces inflammation, and brings life back to tired and overworked skin, andAdaptogenic Ashwagandha, which builds collagen and increases skin’s natural protective abilities.
IMHO, Destress is on its way to becoming a cult favorite, especially among the sensitive skin set. With so much awareness these days about how important your skin barrier is, we’re all trying to incorporate protective and strengthening formulas into our routines, no? I sure am. I love layering this on my face on the days I take breaks from my other actives, like retinol and acids. And I can attest that it’s a dream for dry patches!
Frustrated by fine lines? Try Reverse Targeted Anti-Aging Serum
Reverse’s combo of Pure Retinol and Niacinamide improve discoloration and increase your skin’s natural ceramides — AKA the glue that keeps skin looking youthful, healthy and hydrated. Known for its ultra-soothing qualities and antioxidant properties, Aloe is packed with skin-healing vitamins that deliver nutrients to tired cells, and Panthenol is a moisture magnet that locks in hydration to keep skin plump and energized. This serum will reveal younger-looking skin that feels and looks like you, only better.
Like many others, I love retinol. What I don’t love? The peeling, flaking, and purging that can come along with starting out on a retinol/retinoid product. But even though Reverse boasts an impressive percent of potent retinol, it’s formulated with soothing and hydrating ingredients that nip those skin side effects right in the bud. You can even sandwich it with Barely There moisturizer for more hydration, which is my favorite way to apply tbh. I’ve only been using it for a matter of weeks, but I’m convinced that I’m already starting to see results (those fine lines are fading!).
