Getting engaged is so exciting — popping the question means celebratory parties with family and friends, romantic evenings with your partner, and of course, diamonds (and ring pics galore!). It also means the perfect excuse for a full-on skin makeover. After all, who doesn’t want to look lit-from-within as they walk down the aisle? We asked FACILE dermatology + boutique provider Xochitl Renteln, PA-C to help us put together a generalized plan for anyone who’s engaged to follow. Consider this your go-to guide for getting your skin looking the best it’s ever looked in time for your wedding day.

Day of proposal:

Congratulations! You’re engaged, and you should definitely celebrate. After you pop a glass of champagne and call your family and friends, reach out to your derm for an appointment. “Soak up every second of this special moment,” says Renteln, “but plan to book a consultation ASAP! At the consultation we can address any major skin issues, discuss skin goals, customize a skincare regimen, and make your treatment plan.” And the earlier you get an appointment, the better: that way, you’ll have plenty of time if you need to completely refresh your skincare routine.

11 months before:

Now’s the time to kick start skin rejuvenation by booking an appointment for microneedling with PRP. “This will tackle any dullness, large pores, scars, hyperpigmentation, and texture irregularities, but it takes some time for that collagen and elastin to do its work,” says Renteln. 

9 months before:

At this point, resurfacing treatments like peels and lasers should also be on your radar says Renteln. Like microneedling, these treatments take a little while to show results, so plan accordingly.

6 months before:

This is a good point to get acquainted with Botox and filler, says Renteln (if you haven’t already!). This gives you plenty of time to see results and decide what you and your provider like best. You definitely want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your injectables on your big day.

1 month before:

By this point you and your provider have figured out the right amount of Botox and filler for you, so now is the time for any touch-ups. Give yourself a full month before your wedding to do this so everything has a chance to settle. Skin-smoothing should also be a focus now, according to Renteln. She recommends giving dermaplaning or a peel a try.

1-2 weeks before:

At this point, you’re probably pretty burnt out and stressed from wedding planning (seating charts are a lot harder than you think!). Lucky for you, this is the time for a relaxing and beautifying facial. Try out a Dermalinfusion facial or a microinfusion treatment — “these treatments have no downtime and will help you get that bridal glow you want for the big day,” says Renteln.
