And with so many innovative Black-owned beauty brands in the mix, it’s easy to find your next holy grail product while supporting racial wealth equity, promoting representation in the beauty industry, and celebrating Black creators. An all-around win if you ask us! Here are the Black-owned beauty brands we’re shopping in 2021.

Bread Beauty Supply
Our Pick: Everyday Hair Gloss

Launched in 2020 by Maeve Heim, Bread Beauty Supply is an up-and-coming hair care brand to watch. Their initial offering included a wash, mask, and everyday oil, all tailored to curl types 3a–4c. We love this oil for smoothing frizz, without feeling greasy.

ROSEN Skincare
Our Pick: Super Smoothie Cleanser

ROSEN Skincare is determined to change the way we think about breakouts. And with their line of clean (and cute) skincare, they are well on their way. Founder Jamika Martin has dealt with acne herself, and knows what it takes to get clear, glowing, healthy skin. We love their Super Smoothie Cleanser for its brightening and smoothing power.

Gilded Body
Our Pick: Marble Body Brush

Consider this your sign to start dry brushing. This extremely luxe brush, developed by Blair Armstrong, PA-C, is as beneficial to your body as it is beautiful in your bathroom.

Our Pick: Clean Greens Anti-Pollution Face Mask

GOLDE Founders Trinity Mouzon Wofford and her partner Issey grew GOLDE out of an apartment in Brooklyn, and offer a curated collection of clean, vegan wellness products. We could wax poetic about how we love their Clean Greens mask, but we already did here.

Our Pick: Age Defense Moisturizer

After struggling with his own hair loss, Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown decided to create a line that empowers bald and balding men. This lightweight moisturizer is designed to be used all over the face and scalp (a bald head needs skincare love too!).

Pattern Beauty
Our Pick: Styling Cream

The brainchild of Tracee Ellis Ross, Pattern set out to create products that cater to curly, coily hair. This buttery styling cream provides hydration and hold when setting twist outs, braid outs, bantu knots, wash-&-gos or locs.

Unsun Cosmetics
Our Pick: SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Sunscreen

Like many people of color, Unsun founder Katanya Breaux was over the lack of clean sunscreen options for deeper skin tones. This beautiful tinted sunscreen is the perfect solution, providing necessary protection without a white cast. You’re wearing SPF everyday right?

Oui The People
Our Pick: Sensitive Skin Razor

Oui The People, founded by Karen Young, is all about thoughtful beauty. Their single blade razor helps prevent ingrowns while achieving a super close shade. Plus, this reusable option is much more green than plastic razors (and we love sustainability).

People Of Color
Our Pick: Non-Toxic Nail Polish in Moremi

People of Color offers non-toxic nail polish in shades flattering to brown skin tones, inspired by Founder Jacqueline Carrington’s desire for better representation in nail products. We love their color selection, especially this pale blue shade.

Our Pick: Intense Hydrating Mask

Founder Ozohu Adoh grew up in Nigeria and created Epara to introduce women of color to the best organic and natural ingredients from Africa. This elegant mask addresses dehydration and hyperpigmentation, and detoxifies and brightens skin.

Our Pick: Turmeric Botanical Bar

Fragrance lovers, take note. Founder Asia Grant’s love of scent is apparent in this cleansing bar. One lather and your shower will be filled with the scent of spicy citrus, crisp geranium, bright bergamot, and a bite of ginger.

Our Pick: Faded Brightening + Clearing Gel

Topicals has gone viral on TikTok + IG, and for good reason. Created by Olamide Olowe and Claudia Teng, their medicated botanicals target everyday skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, scarring, and dehydration. Try FADED if you’re looking for bright skin with even tone.
