I’m not typically an anxious person, but I’m an over-thinker and tend to stress myself out more than I need to. When I’m feeling anxious and unsettled, these are the wellness rituals I always turn to. I’ve learned that these routines help my mind and body feel more at ease.
Exercise
Most of us know by now that activity releases mood-boosting endorphins in our bodies, and movement and exercise creates a huge release for me. Getting my blood pumping and sweat flowing while turning my mind off and a motivating playlist on is one of my favorite ways to fight off anxiety. I notice a huge difference in my mental health when I haven’t worked out in a long time.
It doesn’t matter how you move your body but just doing something is so important. I love to have a dance party or bounce on the rebounder that I have at home (both are great for lymphatic drainage). Don’t underestimate walking either – walking on the treadmill or around your neighborhood is a very simple way to get your body moving.
Get Organized
When my room or my surroundings are messy, I feel messy. I’ve always been a pretty messy person but I’ve learned that having an organized space is so good for my overall headspace. Taking some time to clean my space really clears my head and helps me feel so much better. I also find that I sleep better in a clean room.
“I swear that a good long shower is a cure-all.”
Take a Long Shower
I swear that a good long shower is a cure-all. It’s an easy, therapeutic way for me to reset, especially if I’m feeling uneasy and restless. I’ll put a face mask on, play some music and sit in the steamy water, and I always leave the shower feeling like a new woman.
Diffuse Essential Oils
The visual appearance alone of the Vitruvi Stone Diffuser alone calms my anxiety. It’s just gorgeous. I don’t burn candles anymore because I’ve become so sensitive to fragrance, but I love to diffuse oils post-shower when I’m spending time in my room to really set the space. Frankincense, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Cedarwood are some of my favorite oils to diffuse that help relax and calm my mind and body. I love Vitruvi’s Dusk Blend; it’s perfect for a relaxing pre-bedtime ritual. Your room will smell like a spa.
Give yourself a Gua Sha Facial
One of China’s most amazing ancient wellness rituals is Gua Sha. This is the process of using a tool, usually made of jade or rose quartz, to gently scrape and massage your face to increase blood flow and lymph drainage. The list of benefits for your skin is never ending. After cleansing, I like to mist my face and then press 6-8 drops of facial oil into my skin. Then I start my gua sha routine, following a YouTube tutorial and making sure to take deep breaths as I go. I use this time to meditate on what I’m grateful for and to focus on the good. After the facial, my skin feels refreshed and I feel more grounded.
I’ve found these activities to be very effective in managing my stress. What are some wellness rituals that help you to relax when you’re anxious and overwhelmed?
